Tasty burgers and Fresh From Florida bell pepper salad to fill your belly in today’s article. This post was sponsored by Fresh From Florida as part of an Influencer Activation for Influence Central, however, all opinions expressed are my own.
I was raised in a small town in South West Georgia where there were no community pools or beaches nearby. I always looked forward to summer vacations in Florida at my aunt’s home. The 5 ½ hour drive was so special. I would gaze out the window as the foliage would gradually change from peanut farmland with the smell of pine and oak trees to citrus groves, and roads lined with palm and palmetto trees. I fondly consider myself a sun-kissed peach.
I enjoyed the plentiful tropical fruit of Florida such as oranges, lemons, and grapefruits. These fruits were only found in grocery stores or farmer’s markets in Georgia. But in Florida, I could wake up in the morning and smell the aroma. Better yet, I could climb out of my aunt’s bedroom window climb up into the orange tree and pluck an orange with my own hands. Fresh orange juice squeezed by my hands. What a treat!
We ate salads from vegetables grown in my aunt’s garden i.e. peppers, greens, and fresh herbs. These memories remind me to treasure the blessing from God to be able to grow your own food and enjoy the work of your own hands. I grew up in the 60’s when life took on a slower pace. Most families had their own gardens and we spent less time in the grocery stores. We spent time together tending our gardens and preparing food as a family. We communicated with each other without a device in our hands.
In keeping with this memory, I am going to prepare a fresh bell pepper salad and burgers with Fresh From Florida ingredients and share my childhood memories with my daughters. Okay, yes, I picked up the Fresh From Florida ingredients from my local Publix supermarket but they were grown fresh here in Florida! The wonderful thing about Florida is that Florida farmers make it incredibly easy for residents to eat fresh produce year-round. Simply look for fresh food, such as; produce and seafood, labeled Fresh From Florida at your local grocery store.
I enjoy feeding my family Fresh From Florida produce because I know that they are consuming ingredients that are fresh and good for you. We got together and created what we call a Spring turkey burger with a spring bell pepper salad.
On our turkey burger, we seasoned it well and topped it with mushrooms and fresh bell peppers. On the side, we decided to make a fresh bell pepper salad, that tasted so delicious. You can see the quick recipe at the bottom of this article. To be honest, my mouth watered from just cutting the bell peppers up and creating the salad.
