Beauty trends for 2017 are turning out to be some of the boldest and playful looks we have seen in a while. With so many captivating looks pouring out of New York Fashion Week I was inspired to create this article to show you the beauty trends you might want to incorporate into your daily routine with the help of one of my favorite brands, Ulta Beauty and one of my favorite makeup artist, Mr. James Vincent.
James Vincent is the Director of Education and Artistry for The Makeup Show. He has a plethora of accomplishments under his belt such as; training and product development positions at MAC, Stila, Armani, YSL and Make Up For Ever. He has also worked with such talent as Liv Tyler, Courtney Love, Reese Witherspoon, Lady Gaga and Barack Obama. To say he is an accomplished artist would be an understatement. But he remains humble and helpful to those starting out in the field of make-up artistry. With all of his knowledge, I am so happy that he agreed to share his favorite spring beauty trends for 2017.
Referencing spring 2017 as an exciting season, James went on to say that, “Eye, lip, and cheek are all being featured as a focal point with color and texture so it allows individuality and self-expression in makeup which I love. We are seeing many trends from bold, red lips and glowing cheeks to a more matte skin.”
If you have been looking through any magazine you have definitely seen this push for playful and bold makeup. If you are like me you have probably wondered how to create such stunning looks such as; bold cheeks, the glossy eye, and the ever popular yet incredibly difficult smokey eye. Stress not my beautiful child for I have snagged tips from James Vincent to share with you beautiful readers. Plus I decided to take a stab at each trend to pull out of my comfort zone. I will be using products found at Ulta Beauty, to create my version of the trends recommended by James Vincent.
Beauty Trend: The Bold Cheek
James Vincent says, “From the bright c shaped saturation of color at the temple, we saw at Kenzo to the pink shimmer shades on the cheekbone at Fenty Puma and the soft rosy flush at Reem Acra there is no denying Blush is back. More inspired by the Way Bandy shaping of the 70’s and the glamour of the 80’s than the hard reality tv contours of the last few seasons we are seeing a return to rouge that is very exciting and powerfully pretty.”
A few of James’ favorite product for achieving this look.
MAKE UP FOR EVER HD Blush
Viseart Blush Palette in Bright
Mehron Creme Blush
Beauty Trend: The Glossy Eye
“For the makeup wearer that likes to be a little lazy or keep their look easy, a glossy eye is the way to go. With minimum effort, you get maximum impact and while it is not a long wear look it definitely looks good as it wears away. From Diane Kendalls glossy black eye at Baja East to the tangerine gloss used for the sexy sweaty look designed by Tom Pecheux for Altazzura and the clear lovely look at Creatures of the Wind glossy lids took the runway. It’s a super simple look that is sexy and fun. The trick is to keep the gloss right on the lid towards the center for a more open awake look.”
A few of James Favorites:
Kevyn Aucoin Diamond Eye Gloss
MAC Cosmetics Studio Eye Gloss
NYX Lid Laquer
I was so nervous to try this look but afterward, it felt so great to have tried something new. All above products can be found at Ulta Beauty online or at your local store.
Beauty Trend: The Smokey Eye
James Vincent says, “A more classic eye trend that we usually see for fall that is back in spring in a big way is the smudgy, smokey eye. Keep it close to the lash line or let it take its own shape but this easy trend is everywhere. Sonya Rykiel, Rag and Bone, Pucci and more. The trick to make this wearable is to layer texture. Start with your favorite black kohl or waterproof pencil. Smudge it with your finger or a brush and then layer your favorite darker shade shadow in your favorite shape. Apply a liberal amount of mascara to finish.
A few of James’ favorites:
