There is a well-known saying, beauty comes from within. It’s true isn’t it? Whilst we are all rushing around to find the latest anti aging product or the wardrobe staples to keep us looking crazy, sexy or cool, whilst we sweat our butts off in the gym trying to achieve the ultimate figure, we appear to be missing the most important thing of all.
Beauty is something that radiates out of a person. If you walk around this planet with an air of misery hanging over you then no matter how stunning your outfit looks or if your eyebrows are totally on fleek, most people are either not going to notice you or they will, for the wrong thing. You’ll be remembered as that grumpy looking woman or here the comments, wouldn’t she be pretty if she just smiled a little more? However, you see some women who walk down the road with a spring in their step, not a trace of makeup on, wearing torn up jeans and an old tee-shirt, they lift their heads and they smile at you. That smile warms your soul and you walk away thinking, ‘omg her eyes were stunning’ or ‘How does she always look so effortlessly good?’
It isn’t about fashion, it isn’t about small noses or tight little waists, it is ALL about attitude. With the right attitude you can conquer the world, or at least convince everyone around you it’s possible. Attitude is what stands you out in a crowd, it shines out of your pores so much that even if you have a spot the size of a mountain, no one will remember. A smile on your face will give you the best kinds of wrinkles, ones which tell a story and get people thinking ‘who is she?’
So, we can all agree that attitude is the real secret to eternal youth but how do we achieve putting the fizz back into our life and ensuring we live every day, with the occasional allowed five minutes, happy, at peace and confident with ourselves?
It’s not as easy as flicking a switch. Some of you will have huge problems in your lives and will feel anything but happy at the moment, but there are a few simple things you can put into practice to help overcome the hurdles and make yourself feel and look more beautiful than ever.
Let’s start with sleep. This is the most simple of all changes you can make in your life, honest! It really isn’t hard to start-up a fresh routine and get your body back on track. The benefit of, not just, a good night’s sleep but a regular sleep pattern can be seen all over your face. For a start sleep is vital to support the body in removing toxins and rebuilding cells. It stands to reason then that without it, your skin will look sallow and your eyes dimmer. Not great for a positive self-image. Sleep deprivation also makes it harder to process information, make decisions and can lead to depression. It should also be noted that depression can result in sleep deprivation so there is a pretty vicious cycle here.
First things first, make sure the room you sleep in is actually working for you. Small steps like using quality bed linens and a mattress that works for your body shape, size and weight will have a great impact on your body’s ability to shut down. Sticking to a strict bedtime is also vital as our bodies crave repetition. Setting up a shutdown hour to get your body in the mood for sleep will soon become normality and help you drift off more efficiently. Try yoga to ease the worries out of your mind and help balance yourself before slipping between the sheets. And avoid alcohol if you can. Drinking in the evenings may make you feel more relaxed but it’s having the opposite effect on your body.
Diet is another, slightly more complicated, step to improve your mental health and your physical health. Consider Detoxing to give your system a boost, then look at investing in high quality, local produce. Include packs of vegetables, especially of the deep green variety and keep meat lean and clean, no more processed junk, ok? Adding more fruit, vegetables and healthy fats such as omega 3, found in fish and nuts, will help regenerate new cells, pump out toxins and plump up your skin. Giving you a fresh and more natural look. Eating good, healthy foods will also increase your mood and your ability to process problems, having a great impact on your mental health.
Now, to the elixir of life, it really isn’t a big secret, although you would think it is given that a staggering amount of us don’t drink nearly enough. Water.
Water is an essential part of keeping body and mind healthy. It also keeps skin clear, rids the body of nasty toxins and helps promote better sleep, can you see the cycle here? Drinking tea is ok, but ditch the normal black tea and try adding plenty of green tea to your diet instead. Green tea will also help relax you and keep you calm, as well as boosting your metabolism. Hydrate properly and you will look and feel younger, more focussed and happy!
There are two more steps to improving your beauty from within. Firstly, exercise. As much as it pains us to put on our trainers and get active, it is a huge mood booster. Most people walking into the gym look a bit fed up, people coming out of the gym have an awesome buzz about them. That should inspire you, not the weight loss or the muscle toning. The mood toning!
And finally … Smile. Lift the corners of your lips and bare those teeth. Be aware of your facial expressions when you are reading or relaxing. You have plenty of face muscles there and you can actually train them to fall into a smile instead of a frown when you are relaxed. A smile can knock 10 years of a person and, best of all, it is completely free.
So try these few tips and see if they work for you. Then use the make up as a cherry on top, if you still want to!
