We are past the days where working takes precedent over our health. We are living longer than ever, and billions are being invested into extending our “maximum” lifespan of 120 years. We as a species are so involved with extending our time here on earth. We expect to live to one hundred, or longer. At the moment, our society is not equipped to deal with people living that long. Already we have seniors who have outlived their retirement savings and require government help in order to get the care they need.
Current generations that are looking at a century-long lifespan are facing a new epoch. No longer can we live on the path of the generations that came before us: school, work, spouse, house, children, retirement. With how long we are living, we face returning to school many times over the decades to learn new skills. Retirement is a notion of the past; we will have to work longer than ever, invest differently, and prepare for an uncertain future.
We must prepare for the long run, and even thinking about it is very stressful. That is why we must take care of ourselves, from our health to our mental wellness. Pampering is a great way to do this. It gives you time to yourself to take care of yourself, rather than worry about outside factors. You need to remember that you need to be taken care of, too. What’s the point in living for a century if we’re too stressed to enjoy it?
- Spa Days
Spa days are wonderful for everyone. They are the epitome of relaxation and the quintessential pampering getaway. Once a month, go and have a Heaven and Earth massage. Massages not only relax the muscles, they also promote healing and reduce any inflammation. Get your hair done. Your nails done. Enjoy in the physical sensations of your body going into a deep relaxation.
- Treat Yourself
When we work hard, we have every right to spend our money the way we want to. That doesn’t mean, however, that we should be irresponsible with it. Having a monthly budget for treating yourself is a great way to pamper yourself and stay within your means. Treat yourself to different things, from an experience, to food, to buying an item.
- Alone Time
You need time to yourself. It is in these quiet moments that we can truly relax. Pick up a calming and relaxing hobby that you can do at home, or just relax inside. Being away from people will allow you to slow down and reflect. Your alone time is the catch-up you need with yourself.
At the end of our lives, it is the love and happiness that we have accumulated throughout our life that will have made it worthwhile. Living longer than a century gives us a lot of time to reach our goals, which is why pampering ourselves as we go through life is critical.
