Do you know what is super in right now? The 90’s look. Mermaid hair, round sunglasses, crops tops and Dr. Martens are all bang on trend. But taking it forward into the new season, the look is going to get a little more gothic and dark. But how can you rock this vibe without breaking the bank, I hear you cry? Read on to find out.
DIY Ripped Skinny Jeans
Another essential item for this look is black ripped skinny jeans. But what can day do if you don’t have enough money to spend on a new pair? Well because you are going for black it’s pretty easy to take a pair that you already have and dry them.
You can get cheap dyes that go in the washing machine or even one that you can do by hand in a bucket. Just remember to wait for a sunny day, and do them outside as that black dye has a habit of getting everywhere.
Then once they are dyed and dried, take some scissors and thick sewing needle to them in the place in which you want the most rips. You can follow these images here for some guidance on this.
So the first thing that you can do to rock the goth 90’s vibe is to get you makeup right. Of course, a huge part of this is lipstick. In the true gothic style, you need to be thinking vampy burgundies, matt’s grays, shiny plums, and blacks.
Now before you head out to buy all the latest expensive lipstick ranges it well worth checking your local drugstore to see what shade they have on offer. Yes, it’s lovely to have Kat Von Dee and Sephora everything. But if you can get a similar shade for half the price you’d be a fool not too.
Or you could try this clever little item from NYX, which you apply over the top of your existing lipstick and it gives them a gothic darker tone. Perfect for saving money and getting more wear out of what you already have.
Jewelry And Accessories
Of course one of the best way so making an outfit look on trend, and way more expensive that it actually is to accessorize it.
For this 90’s gothic look think chunky items, layer together like this gothic ring. As well as chains and velvet chokers which have super rock vibe too.
If you are looking to rock a hat, then you can get some pretty inexpensive black fedora styles which work brilliantly for this look. In fact, you’ll look just like you have come out of AHS Coven!
Black sneakers are also an essential for this look but don’t feel like you have to buy the branded version. Save you money and instead go for a generic type, as no one can really tell when they are on anyway!
Another Element of this 90s dark trend is the smokey eye. Which most folks thinks is super hard to do and that they need to invest in a whole pallet to get all the time right.
But in fact, you really don’t need to do over your makeup bag to rock this look,. All you need is one single product like this smoky eye stick from L’oreal. Then use your existing shades as normal, and add this on top.
DIY Tank top
Another great item to wear over the top of you black ripped jeans, and the obligatory 90’s crop top is a long ‘rock and roll tank top.’ But instead of spending a fortune on buying one, just get on one of the auction sites like eBay and get a mens XXXL fan t-shirts.
Then use some scissors and this pattern guide to help you convert you t-shirt tent, into a bang on trend tank top. Easy!
Of course, no 90’s goth style outfit would be complete without coffin nails modeled by the infamous Kylie Jenner. But if you are spending a fortune at the salon every few weeks getting yours done. Stop!
Unless you have a serious issue with your nails, why not go for stick on ones instead? You can get them in all the latest shapes and designs now, and I have seen some particularly vampy varieties in dark reds and black, with the coffin shape, that would be perfect for this look.
With the improvement in the glue technology too, they really are a good buy, as they’re inexpensive and will last for ages!
